“Many people around the league” anticipate Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman to move up in the first round of the NFL draft, as Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Schefter reported, “According to sources, he has already begun contacting around, estimating the potential cost of a move up to be ready for what has turned into a nearly yearly custom.”
On Thursday, Philadelphia will select at number 22 in the first round.
The Eagles “want to move up in Round 1 or Round 2 to seek either a cornerback or an offensive tackle,” according to sources, according to Jordan Reid of ESPN.
Roseman has made four trade-ups in Round 1 over the past five rounds, according to Schefter.
Roseman has selected 13 players in the first round of the draft since joining the Eagles in 2010. All but three of those choices were acquired through trades, according to Reuben Frank of NBC Sports.
Roseman, according to Schefter, has never drafted “a corner, tight end, running back, or safety” with a first-round pick.
In 2024, that might alter as the Eagles try to strengthen a secondary that had trouble the previous year, particularly in the slot.
By obtaining a cornerback selection such as Terrion Arnold of Alabama or Cooper DeJean of Iowa, who both excelled in the slot during their collegiate careers, Roseman might meet that need. Pro Football Focus graded DeJean as the collegiate quarterback with the strongest slot coverage in 2023.
In the most recent 2024 NFL mock draft, Arnold is slated to go at No. 14 and DeJean at No. 25, according to the B/R NFL Scouting Department.
The Eagles could be able to acquire a top cornerback without having to relocate. However, Philadelphia might jump a few spots to guarantee its desired pick, given Roseman’s penchant for dealing up.
