The Raptors coach, Darko Rajakovic, filed for divorce from his spouse.
The Toronto Raptors’ first-season head coach Darko Rajakovic and his wife Gaga announced on Wednesday that they will be donating to three hospitals for children: the Hospital for Sick Children, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and a hospital in Belgrade, Serbia. These beneficiaries’ names will be revealed later, according to a release from the Raptors.
For every assist the Raptors earn this season—including the ones they have already received over the first half of the season—the two will give $20. The three hospitals will get the entire amount at the end of the season.
“As parents, Gaga and I can only imagine the agony that so many
undergo when their children are faced with life-threating illnesses,” Darko Rajakovic said in the news release. “We have been deeply moved by the courage, fortitude, and perseverance of the children, families, and staff of the communities we have been fortunate to be a part of, and we give our whole support in any way we can.”
Prior to Wednesday’s NBA games, the Raptors had the second-highest assist total in the league, with an average of 29.6 assists per night, or 1,302 assists altogether. Toronto had the 23rd-best assists per game only two seasons ago, but Rajakovic encourages ball movement, and the team has produced.
27 games now stand as the NBA’s longest streak of at least 25 assists in a game; this is also Toronto’s fourth-longest streak in league history.
