Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge was banned as a result of a referee outburst.

Manager of Western Sydney Marko Rudan was suspended from coaching for the longest period of time in A-League history—eight years—for criticizing referees.

He made disparaging or dehumanizing statements, claims, or remarks to the public, even when he contributed to a media source.

As a result of the sentence, Rudan will serve a one-game suspension and a three-match ban until the conclusion of the 2024–2025 season.

It’s the longest sentence since the two-match ban and two-match warning that former Adelaide United manager Guillermo Amor received for “intentional contact” with a match official in 2016 ended.

Melbourne Victory’s then-coach Marco Kurz was suspended for one game in 2020 for attacking an official during a hard-fought 3-2 loss to Central Coast.

Rudan’s sanctions come after James Johnson, the chairman of the Football Association, promised on Tuesday to toughen up on referee abuse.
