Done Deal: Just In, The Miami Dolphins Announce History-Making $212.4 million Contract Deal With Top Talented Star

Tua Tagovailoa, the quarterback for the Miami Dolphins, inked a record-breaking four-year contract deal for $212.4 million.

After Joe Burrow of Cincinnati and Trevor Lawrence of Jacksonville in terms of quarterback salaries, Tagovailoa will be paid an average of $53.1 million annually.

The eighth-highest guaranteed salary for a quarterback in the deal is $167 million. ESPN broke the news of the agreement first, citing Athletes First, Tagovailoa’s agency, as the source of the terms.

The Dolphins posted a video of Tagovailoa on social media on Friday afternoon, but they did not make the extension public.

When the Dolphins selected Tagovailoa with the fifth overall pick in the 2020 draft, he was still operating under the terms of his signed deal. Tagovailoa was hoping to sign a deal akin to those of Burrow and Justin Herbert, two other draft picks from the same year.

Burrow and Herbert got multiyear contracts for more than $200 million after their rookie deals.

Tagovailoa took part in the team’s offseason exercises and some of the first few days of training camp while the discussions were going on. On Friday, he participated completely.

After suffering numerous concussions in his first three NFL seasons, Tagovailoa set himself up for a large salary increase in 2023 by playing well and staying injury-free.

Miami’s winless postseason record remained intact when the Dolphins made it to the postseason but were eliminated in the first round by Kansas City, the eventual Super Bowl champion.

Tagovailoa’s contract with Miami will be extended until 2028.
