Keeper Rohan Luthra is “likely” to join Derby County this week after leaving Cardiff City.
The 22-year-old Luthra’s contract with Cardiff City expired at the end of the last campaign, and the Bluebirds did not extend it. He has been considering his options this summer since he became a free agent in late June.
Derby County’s acquisition of custodian Luthera would probably be a backup plan. He was signed by Cardiff City in 2021, and he gave their goalkeeping staff cover.
According to Sky Sports’ most recent report on his future, the Rams are ready to sign him permanently as they get ready to launch their new championship quest. After finishing behind Portsmouth in the League One standings last season, Paul Warne’s team has been active in the transfer market.
Derby County would most likely use Luthra as a backup.
After signing with Cardiff City in 2021, he provided cover for their goalkeeping staff. He only made one appearance for their first team, which is why he was free to leave and look for work elsewhere.
Luthra played 12 games for the National League South team previous season while on loan at Slough Town in non-league competition to get some experience.
He progressed through Crystal Palace’s academy system and was a fixture for the Eagles at several young levels before deciding to play for Wales.
He signed his first professional contract with the Premier League team, but he left Selhurst Park less than three years ago.
For Derby County trialist, what comes next?
Despite Luthra’s difficult evening against Chesterfield, it appears that Derby County will still sign him.
He’ll give Warne an extra set of hands and spice up the stickfight between them.
