Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Justin Watson left Wednesday’s training camp session early due to an injury.
The incident occurred during the team’s final practice session without pads. Watson made a sliding catch but remained on the field afterward, signaling potential distress.
Team trainers promptly attended to him, focusing on his lower left leg. A Chiefs official later confirmed that Watson had hurt his foot.
Watson, who concluded the 2023 season with 27 receptions for 460 yards, managed to walk to the medical tent independently.
However, he was eventually transported up the hill at Missouri Western State University in a wheelchair, indicating the injury might be more serious than initially anticipated.
Additionally, cornerback Nazeeh Johnson also sustained an injury during the same practice session, straining his knee. The injuries to Watson and Johnson are significant setbacks for the Chiefs as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Watson’s role as a reliable receiver is crucial for the team’s offensive strategy, and his absence could impact their performance.
The extent of Watson’s foot injury and Johnson’s knee strain will be closely monitored, with further evaluations determining their availability for future training sessions and the start of the season.
