Breaking News: The Denver Broncos have lost Russell Wilson to a…

A former teammate of Russell Wilson boldly predicts his 2024 team.

Where Russell Wilson will play in 2024 is one of the most talked-about off-season tales. Wilson is no longer the starting quarterback of choice for the Denver Broncos, who are led by head coach Sean Payton. It will be hard to deal with him, though, because he has one of the wealthiest contracts in NFL history.

Nevertheless, once he is formally out of his Denver deal, a few teams in need of a quarterback will be interested in signing him. There isn’t really any reason for any team to trade for him unless Denver releases him.

It all boils down to money, as it does with almost everything related to the NFL. With five years and more than $170 million in debt, no team wants to trade for a 35-year-old quarterback (well, maybe the New York Jets’ Joe Douglas).

Why ought they to, anyway? The Broncos will cut Wilson if they truly want to move on from him. Yes, they will have a $85 million dead cap hit, but by designating after June 1st, they may stretch that out over a two-year period.

At that time, Wilson may take a less expensive contract with any team. Maybe even a one- or two-year contract. Concerning Wilson’s deal is its duration as well. Wilson might be the starting quarterback for a rebuilding team for a year or two while they groom the future QB.

With Russell Wilson still serving as the team’s quarterback in 2018, wide receiver Brandon Marshall, a six-time Pro Bowler and one-time First Team All-Pro, called it quits in 2018. He made the following prediction about his former quarterback, who will play for the Atlanta Falcons, on his podcast, I Am Athlete:

With a pick in the top ten of the NFL Draft, the Falcons might add even more weapons to their already impressive offensive arsenal. Justin Fields’ draft capital, who has been linked to them recently, would not need to be moved if they were confident they could sign Wilson.
