Three players sign one-year contracts with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Cédric Paré, Philippe Myers, and Dakota Mermis will probably play for the Toronto Marlies.
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced that they had signed forward Cédric Paré, defenseman Dakota Mermis, and forward Philippe Myers to one-year contracts. The three players are valued at $775,000.
Mermis, 30, spent a large portion of the previous season—his first in the NHL—with the Minnesota Wild, where he finished with eight points in 47 games. He spent 14:05 on the ice on average each game. Over three teams, he has participated in 74 NHL games in his career.
He’ll probably play a veteran role on the Marlies blueline and cover for the Leafs in the event of an injury. Despite playing in just five AHL games last season, Mermis captained the Iowa Wild.
Last season, Myers played 61 games for the Syracuse Crunch and five for the Tampa Bay Lightning. He scored 23 points in the AHL and zero in the NHL. He has participated in 238 AHL and 158 NHL games over his career.
The 27-year-old has prior experience in Toronto, having spent 2021–2022 as a loanee of the Toronto Marlies, playing in 16 games. Myers, who is listed at 6’6, will give the Marlies stability and depth on the right side of the Leafs.
Out of the three new signings, Paré is the only player to have a two-way contract. In 61 games with the Colorado Eagles last season, he scored 14 goals and 35 points; in 148 AHL games overall, he has scored 69 points.
Throughout his four years of professional play, the 25-year-old player, who attended the Maple Leafs Development Camp in 2021, has gotten better every time. Next season, he will support the Marlies offensively.
