Kieran McKenna: Amidst Chelsea interest, Manchester United meets with Ipswich boss representatives

For Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna, Manchester United and Chelsea may soon face off; McKenna’s representatives have spoken with Man Utd, as Sky Sports News has learned. Chelsea is looking for a new manager, while United has not decided whether to continue with Erik ten Hag for the upcoming campaign.

Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna’s representatives have spoken with representatives of Manchester United, according to senior reporter Rob Dorsett of Sky Sports News.

After learning that United officials have spoken with representatives of Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna, Sky Sports News speculates that Manchester United and Chelsea will compete for the position of head coach.

It is clearly evident that McKenna is on the short lists of potential possibilities for both Manchester United and Chelsea, even if United has not yet decided whether to continue with Erik ten Hag for the upcoming campaign.

McKenna is one of three candidates Chelsea is considering to succeed Mauricio Pochettino, who departed by mutual consent earlier this week. The other two are Thomas Frank of Brentford and Enzo Maresca of Leicester City.

But the news that Manchester United have made initial approaches to McKenna too, in case they decide to change their manager after this weekend’s FA Cup Final, has added a complex new dimension to the situation.

McKenna has been joined on United’s four-man shortlist by Pochettino and former Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel, who are both free agents, along with Frank.

Should United lose to Manchester City at Wembley, there would be no European football at Old Trafford next season, after an eighth-placed finish in the Premier League.

According to sources close to Sky Sports News, McKenna’s agents met last week with Omar Berrada, the new Manchester United chief executive, and Jason Wilcox, the technical director, to discuss the possibility of his taking over the first team.

Manchester United was contacted by Sky Sports News, but they declined to comment.

The FA Cup final is the club’s primary concern; no choices will be made prior to it. Following the City match, the season will be evaluated.

SSN is aware that Ipswich wants McKenna to continue leading the team as they make their way back to the Premier League.
