Amad has revealed the sad news that his “brother’s mum” has died

Manchester United star Amad has revealed the sad news that his “brother’s mum” has died – and was forced to clarify that his biological mother hasn’t passed away.

Amad is set to play a key role for United this season having signed from Atalanta in 2021. But he has now been hit by the tragic news of the passing.

The 22-year-old announced the news on his Snapchat social media account, sharing a picture of the woman holding two young children. He captioned the post: “Rest in peace Mum, may Allah forgive you.”

When the post went viral, Amad had yet to announce the news on his other social media accounts. He later clarified that the woman in question is not his biological mother but still someone very close to his heart. He said on Twitter : “Guys I wanted to clarify. She is not my biological mother, she is my brother’s mother and my sister. May she rest in peace.”

Tributes poured in from Red Devils fans following Amad’s post. One wrote: “My thoughts and prayers are with Amad Diallo.” A second commented: “May her soul rest in peace.”

A third added: “We are all with you Amad Diallo. Stay strong king.” A fourth said: “We are all behind you Diallo.” A fifth wrote: “We are all with you in this difficult moment, stay strong.”

The United player is a big family man and has previously spoken about the role his biological mum played in driving his football career. And he revealed that she was in tears after he made his debut for United against Real Sociedad in 2021.

He told their club website: “It was all so hard to believe. After I made my United debut against Real Sociedad, I called my mum after the game and she was in tears, saying that she couldn’t believe it.

“For me, it was an incredible feeling because getting to play at the highest level only happens once in a lifetime. Mum was really proud of me. She was always confident that I would make it to the top.

Amad confirmed the sad news in a post on social media

“But she always told me to stay humble, to work hard and never give up. So, when she saw me play those eight minutes or so, it was everything to her. We couldn’t believe it.”

Amad is expected to be a big part of boss Erik ten Hag’s plans this campaign, having enjoyed a stellar pre-season. After the youngster starred in a win over Rangers, the Dutchman called for Amad to make his mark.

“We have to see Amad in a different way. Of course, he’s still young but he is not inexperienced any more. Last season he had bad times with bad injuries. Before that, he was in the Championship and he had a great season,” Ten Hag said.

“At the end of last season, he had a very good time in our first team and played some good games. Now for this season, this has to be the year. It’s great that he starts like this. On Monday he couldn’t play, he was not allowed to go into Norway, but today he could play and he played a very good game.”
