Breaking: The Dallas Cowboys honoured their exceptional cornerback for his outstanding contributions to the team’s success

The Orlando Scandrick of this generation is Jourdan Lewis. When Scandrick was first draughted by the Cowboys in the fifth round out of Boise State, his odds were initially lengthier.

In the context of college football, Boise is a lot of fun, but let’s not pretend that it is producing NFL players (though, to be fair, these are the Cowboys). In any event, the important thing to remember is that Scandrick played for this team for ten years during his NFL career.

2017 was Scandrick’s last season on the field before Dallas brought in a new generation of cornerbacks. The team selected Chidobe Awuzie in the second round, and while we thought he would play the longest, it was his future best friend who the club selected one round later and who is about to start his eighth year.

Lewis recorded Dak Prescott’s first interception when the team was wearing pads, as you can see. It’s funny how, compared to last year, when Dak’s interceptions were the talk of the camp, they are scarcely spoken now. Funny, indeed!

However, in regards to Lewis, the team is in a position where Trevon Diggs, DaRon Bland, and Lewis are their top three cornerbacks—players they have a great deal of faith in. Dallas has a very high floor of play at the corner position because they can rely on Lewis with such ease and fluidity.

Although it goes without saying that the offseason was extremely disappointing, one might argue that because he has kept them in the black on the back end, Jourdan Lewis may have been their most valuable retention.

The Dallas Cowboys are getting precisely what they need from Jourdan Lewis right now

Jourdan Lewis was selected by the Cowboys in the third round, unlike Scandrick, who was selected on Day 2 (the 2008 draft was technically different).

Furthermore, Taco Charlton was also selected by Dallas in the first round, thus although Lewis was a Michigan native, he wasn’t the most renowned Wolverine in his draft class. We don’t need to say anything more about it.

Lewis has persevered through numerous adjustments to the Cowboys secondary

He was present at the height of Byron Jones’ career, the days of Kris Richard that we believed would completely transform the league, the entrance of Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland (not to mention their incredible individual seasons), and the signing of Stephon Gilmore.

Gilmore is actually an intriguing choice because it appears that the Cowboys decided to go with Lewis rather than Gilmore this past spring when it came to free agency retentions.

Though this may not be quite accurate, Dallas only decided to bring one back, and most people would have selected the past Defensive Player of the Year if we had conducted a poll here in the middle of it.
