Rams’ mounting injuries ahead of a challenging schedule to begin.
Five weeks before the Los Angeles Rams embark on what appears to be a challenging schedule to begin the regular season, the team is already dealing with another injury.
Puka Nacua, a star wide receiver with the Rams, had a knee injury this past weekend that one source called “not significant.” As a result, he is currently regarded as week to week.
Wideout Puka Nacua’s injury was described as “not significant” by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, but Rams supporters witnessed firsthand last year how long injuries can persist into the beginning of a season.
Cooper Kupp, Nacua’s co-star and the 2021 AP Offensive Player of the Year, missed the first four games of the 2023 season due to a hamstring injury sustained last summer.
In Kupp’s absence, Nacua thrived, setting a record for the first four games of his NFL career with 39 receptions for 501 yards and one touchdown on 52 looks.
But before Kupp was activated off injured reserve ahead of Week 5, Los Angeles had a 2-2 start
Nacua set new rookie single-season records for receiving yards (1,486) and receptions (105) at the end of the previous year. He was a Pro Bowl player, selected to the second team of the Pro Bowl, and finished second in the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year competition.
Matthew Stafford, the quarterback for the Rams, could have a seriously injured roster entering Week 1 of the NFL depending on how the rest of training camp plays out.
Additionally, Los Angeles does not have three of its five starting offensive line men available, per an ESPN report.
Along with right tackle Rob Havenstein and left guard Jonah Jackson, who are both classified as week-to-week due to ankle and shoulder injuries, respectively, left tackle Alaric Jackson is also dealing with an ankle problem.
Darious Williams, the team’s anticipated starting cornerback, is recuperating from a hamstring strain.
The Rams take on the Dallas Cowboys in the first of their three preseason games on Sunday
Three of Los Angeles’s first four games of the regular season are away from home, including a Week 1 “Sunday Night Football” matchup against the Detroit Lions on September 8.
Stafford’s team will play its only home game in September on September 22 in Week 3 against the San Francisco 49ers, the reigning NFC champions.
