Paul Warne, the manager of Derby County, hopes to add another striker before the summer transfer window closes. This might allow one of the young forwards for the Rams to move out on loan.
When the new season begins this weekend, Derby is scheduled to return to the Championship. On Friday, 9 August, the Rams will travel to Ewood Park to play Blackburn Rovers.
This will be the club’s first appearance in a second-tier match since they were demoted to League One at the conclusion of the 2021–2022 season.
Paul Warne will be looking to build on his championship-winning campaign from last year and bring Derby back to the top division.
In their promotion-winning season, his team gave up just 37 goals in League One, and the 51-year-old will be aware that if they want to succeed in a higher tier the next season, they will need to play solid defence once more.
On the other side of the pitch, Jerry Yates, who is joining on loan from Swansea City, and Kayden Jackson, who is joining from Ipswich Town, are the two new forward alternatives that have been signed thus far during the summer transfer window.
Conor Washington and James Collins are two more offensive possibilities the Rams have in front of them for the upcoming campaign.
Before the transfer window closes, Warne hopes to add one more striker to his roster. He clarified that the prospective acquisition would “benefit them immensely,” but teenager Dajaune Brown might be moved on loan to advance his development since the Rams are expected to field up to five strikers for their 2024–2025 Championship campaign.
A fan pundit discusses Dajaune Brown’s future
felt doubtful that an agreement could be reached in time for the season’s opening game.
Dajaune Brown, an 18-year-old striker for Derby, had a fantastic 2023–24 campaign.
He was nominated for the League One Apprentice of the Season award after making an impression while on loan at Gateshead, a National League team.
Shaun Woodward, a Rams fan pundit for Football League World, expressed his thoughts on whether Brown should be sent on loan for the upcoming season, stating that the fan base’s views on the matter are divided.
Woodward stated, “I would think that Brown needs to go out on loan again.”
“He was fantastic for the first part of the season in the Conference last year, but as we all know, the jump from the Conference to the Championship is enormous.
“He’s still extremely immature. Yes, he moves really quickly, but I believe he needs more time to develop, perhaps in League One or League Two.
“Yeah, I understand that would divide our supporters, but in my opinion, he should leave on loan and we should get a more capable striker.”
Brown made an impression while on loan the previous year
Should Brown be placed on loan for the upcoming season, it won’t be his first brief stint away from Pride Park. The talented striker played two games for Derby in League One during the first half of the previous season before joining Gateshead in January.
The young player led the Heed to a top-seven finish in the National League with six goals, but they were disqualified from the play-offs due to their inability to complete the requirements to join the EFL.
Nevertheless, he concluded his loan stint at Wembley with a win, as Gateshead emerged victorious from the FA Trophy on penalties following Brown’s goal and assist in a 2-2 draw.
Brown is an exciting talent who could undoubtedly play a significant role for Derby in the future if he is moved out on loan once more before the end of the transfer window.
