According to InterLive, Manchester United has rekindled their interest in Denzel Dumfries, the defender for Inter Milan.
The Red Devils have long admired the Dutchman, and they are still eager to lure him to Old Trafford this summer. Given that boss Simone Inzaghi is supposedly a major supporter of the 28-year-old defender, Inter is hesitant to move Dumfries. However, they can be forced to act due to the player’s contract circumstances.
Dumfries was instrumental in assisting Inter in winning the Serie A championship the previous campaign. In 36 appearances across all competitions, he recorded four goals and six assists.
He was a member of Ronald Koeman’s Netherlands squad, which made it to the 2024 European Championship semifinals.
Since Inter paid £12 million to entice Dumfries away from PSV Eindhoven in 2021, the player has been a member of the Inter roster.
He is currently in the last 12 months of his contract, and Inter is allegedly working nonstop to get him to sign a new agreement that will keep him at Guiseppe Meazza past 2025.
Erik ten Hag is working to persuade the board to sign the Netherlands international, but United hasn’t given up.
In order to prevent losing Dumfries to a free transfer the next summer, Inter will consider offers if they are unable to reach an agreement with him on a new contract.
As a major Dumfries fan, United manager Ten Hag is attempting to persuade the recruiting staff to make an approximate £17 million offer to sign the defender.
Dumfries is a primary priority for the Red Devils, as they desperately need full-back reinforcements.
Given that they are attempting to be frugal with their summer spending, United might also look at a player-plus-cash move that would send Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the other direction.
The Red Devils are now negotiating to sign Noussair Mazraoui, a right defender for Bayern Munich.
West Ham United canceled the Moroccan player’s transfer after he came dangerously close to joining the team because of his agent’s unreasonable demands.
