It has long been believed that NBA players today are more polished, athletic, and skilled than their forebears.
Those who think that players of today would have dominated if they had played in the past include former three-time Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams.
Surprisingly, Williams asserted on the “No Chill” podcast that if LeBron James had played in the 1970s, he would have won “15 straight titles.”
It appears that former two-time NBA champion Isiah Thomas took offense to the comment, as he said on X on Thursday that the NBA had better athletes than James in 1975. Also, the legendary Pistons player criticized younger players and fans for their tendency toward nostalgia.
Funny and ridiculous, in my opinion, is that some people believe that basketball players who can run and jump were invented in this generation. In 1975, if all else was equal, I doubt he would have been the greatest athlete.
Though the “Done with the 90s” movement has taken over social media, Thomas is not the only retired legend to challenge it.
Though Shaquille O’Neal has acknowledged that greater athleticism and talent are only “natural” among today’s players, it doesn’t mean that they are necessarily better basketball players.
Compared to the 1990s, the technology we see in 2024 is far more sophisticated,” O’Neal stated.
Hoopers of today have the ideal chance to demonstrate their supremacy on a global scale at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Can they defeat opponents with a 44-point margin of victory, as the 1992 Dream Team did?
