The Toronto Maple Leafs declared that they and forward Connor Dewar had reached an agreement on a one-year deal.
Because the two parties agree to forego an arbitration proceeding, the transaction has a $1.18 million maximum hit. Dewar, 25, made 17 appearances during the Maple Leafs regular season in 2017; he contributed four assists and one goal.
He was a mainstay of Toronto’s bottom six, averaging just under 13 minutes of ice time per contest. Dewar, who was shorthanded for 2:23 of every game, contributed to the Leafs’ penalty kill as well.
Craig Berube is the new bench boss in Toronto going into the upcoming season, so Dewar will have to make an impression on him during training camp and the preseason.
Dewar needs to demonstrate his excellent two-way game and push back to make himself a difficult forward to play against in the face of the intense internal competition that the Maple Leafs will face up front.
Dewar should be pleased with Berube’s message that his side must never be outworked.
The only player off the active roster who is still unsigned is Nick Robertson, according to Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving, since Dewar was re-signed.
As the offseason goes on, this will undoubtedly be a plot to watch because there have been rumors that Robertson wants to leave Toronto. Before the 2024–25 season, Toronto will have $1.2 million in cap space available.
