New Orleans Saints, Rashid Shaheed agree on 1-year extension
A source informed ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Saturday that the New Orleans Saints and wide receiver Rashid Shaheed, an exclusive rights free agency, have struck an agreement on a one-year, $5.2 million contract deal.
Shaheed was selected to the Pro Bowl and All-Pro team the previous season. He also plays returner for New Orleans. Four days before the Saints kick off training camp, his agents, Robert Bailey and Drew Rosenhaus, finalised the deal.
In 2023, Shaheed went on to finish the season with 46 receptions for 719 yards and five scores before the Saints switched to Derek Carr at QB. In an October 38-27 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, he caught three passes on three targets for 153 yards and a touchdown.
Shaheed, 25, can also rush the passer when the Saints offence wants to use deception to alter up the game. He had four carries for 57 yards and a touchdown in his 2022 rookie season. He also had seven carries for 37 yards in his previous year.
The Saints take on the Arizona Cardinals in the first preseason game on August 10. On September 8, the team plays a divisional game against the Carolina Panthers to kick off the regular season.
