NASCAR star takes another victory in The Great American Getaway 400 at Pocono Raceway
Ryan Blaney, the reigning NASCAR champion, continued to add victories to his burgeoning record on Sunday at Pocono Raceway, the location of his very first Cup Series triumph seven years prior.
This weekend in Pennsylvania, oval racing returned following the previous race on the streets of Chicago, and Blaney emerged victorious after 160 laps of competition, marking his 12th career triumph.
This is Blaney’s second victory of the year; the 30-year-old driver for Team Penske won the Iowa Corn 350 last month.
At Pocono Raceway, Denny Hamlin of Joe Gibbs Racing finished in second place, with Alex Bowman of Hendrick Motorsport completing the top three.
Chase Elliot, the current leader of the NASCAR Cup Series, came in ninth.
Blaney: 12 teams are performing better than in 2023.
In his post-race interview, Blaney reflected on his win and was asked if the 12 team was in the best position it has ever been.
Given that he went on to win the championship, Blaney’s insistence that they were in a better position than they were the previous year is promising.
According to Blaney, “we’re in a better spot at this time this year than we were last year.”
“I definitely think we’re in a better spot at this time this year than we were last year,” Blaney explained.
“At this point, I feel like our speed’s better. Our execution is great. We are doing everything as a 12 group, the best that we can. Some other kind of unforeseen circumstances, kind of have hindered some finishes and possible wins but I’m just proud of the whole team Penske group.
“All those men and women at the race shop, they’ve worked their butt’s off, you know, to try to get better and deal with the drivers who wanted to say we need to get a lot better, so appreciate them.”
