SAD NEWS: The Las Vegas Raiders’ owner, Mark M. Davis, passed away because of…
There was a lot of discussion in the weeks preceding the 2024 NFL Draft regarding the Las Vegas Raiders selecting former Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. with the No. 13 pick.
Despite having a veteran in Gardner Minshew II and Aidan O’Connell, the Raiders could yet discover their QB1 in a stacked quarterback draft class.
The Atlanta Falcons startled the football world by selecting Penix with the No. 8 overall pick before it was ever a possibility to take him.
Marcel Reece, a former Raiders Pro-Bowl fullback, fervently want Penix to succumb to the Silver and Black.
Reece declared, “You have no idea how desperately I wanted it,” as he appeared on “Up and Adams” remotely on Tuesday. “Atlanta made a brilliant selection by selecting Michael Penix Jr. at number eight. He will continue to be an amazing leader for many years to come. and a fantastic quarterback. Regardless of who he was tossing the ball to, I have unimaginable faith in his decision.”
Penix and Reece are both former Washington students.
In the final days leading up to the draft, a lot of mock drafts began projecting that Penix would be selected by the Raiders; this very well would have occurred had he not finished in the top 10, which many did not think he would.
Many fans were thinking the same thing that Reece was.
For seven of his eight NFL seasons, Reece was a Raider. Three years after the Raiders signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2009, he was selected for the first of three consecutive Pro Bowls.
In 92 games for the Silver and Black, Reece made 67 starts. During his time with the team, he ran for 844 yards and three scores and totaled 2,015 yards and 12 touchdowns on 205 grabs.
Reece signed with the Seattle Seahawks, with whom he played his final NFL season, after becoming a free agency in 2017. He appeared in two postseason games for Seattle, starting one of them, despite playing in just four regular season games.
