Sheila Hamp took over ownership of the Detroit Lions from her mother a little over three years ago. Since then, a lot has changed, including the standards held for the company she currently leads. The Lions announced on June 23, 2020, that Martha Ford, who has owned the team since 2014, will give her daughter the keys and step down from her position. After 50 years, Martha Ford succeeded her husband, William Clay Ford, in the family business.

She hadn’t entered it with naive faith when Hamp assumed command. She has been with the team and the NFL for a long time; from 2014 to 2019, she served as vice chair.

With Matt Patricia leading the Lions as head coach and Bob Quinn serving as general manager, the 2020 NFL season got began, with Covid directing fans away from the stadium. They had both left by Thanksgiving’s end.

She called a close college friend who may offer assistance and said that the first stage be to articulate your noble aim. She remembered him telling her that everything will work itself out if you have a few friends who support you.

After giving it some thought, she declared, “My noble cause was the city of Detroit, the fans, the state, and everybody who has supported the Lions for so many years.”

They concluded that the most important qualities the new administration should have were culture and leadership.

The Los Angeles Rams executive Brad Holmes was hired, as Hamp and Wood said on January 14. Dan Campbell took over as their new head coach a week later.

The Lions were able to select Aidan Hutchinson with the second overall pick in 2021 after going 3-13-1. The previous year, despite finishing 9-8, they did not make the playoffs. The squad members are eager for something truly unique to happen this year.

With the support she’s gotten, Hamp, who is about to begin her third season as the primary owner, believes the appropriate people are in place.

“I believe this method has made me a much better person. I believe this since everything is visible to me and because the appropriate people are present. I’m glad I was able to select the appropriate individuals. I had never held this kind of leadership role before, so I wasn’t sure. I never really know what to expect from anything new you try, so I had no idea if it would succeed or fail. I’m overjoyed that I have so much support. I could never accomplish this on my own,” Hamp remarked to FOX 2’s Dan Miller.

The Lions were a strong postseason contender last season with the right facilities in place, but they ultimately played spoiler against Green Bay. The way the Lions played the previous season, Hamp thinks they have a lot of potential.

I assure you, it’s very incredible. It’s quite thrilling. It’s clear that the league views us differently because this is our first NFL season opener in Kansas City. It’s amazing how many national games they have planned for us. Last year, we didn’t have any. We believe we’re up to the challenge, and it’s extremely amazing,” remarked Hamp.

What would a victory in February imply for Hamp and the team?

Yes, I have given it some thought. “I would be dishonest if I claimed I hadn’t,” she continued.

“I’ve given it a lot of thought, and I think it would be great for the city, the supporters, and my whole family to raise the trophy.”
