Latest News: The Lions’ crushing loss to the 49ers is still vivid in the mind.

The Detroit Lions lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game nearly three months ago.

The Lions, led by Jared Goff, are still reeling from the catastrophic defeat in which Detroit squandered a 24-7 halftime lead.

Detroit suffered setbacks in the second half, losing 27-7 against Kyle Shanahan’s 49ers in the fourth quarter. It resulted in an incredible collapse by Goff and company, preventing the Lions from winning their first Super Bowl in franchise history.

“I’m not sure, but it appears that many things did not go our way. I don’t want that to sound like an excuse, because we believe we should have won that game regardless. On Day 2 of the Lions’ offseason program, Goff stated that the 49ers outperformed the Lions in the second half. “That’s sort of the bottom line. I wish I could go back and point out some plays for you, but there were a lot. There was not just one. There was more than one thing wrong. There were a few of them, and that’s how the ball bounced that day.

Detroit’s veteran signal-caller sees the setback as motivation for the 2024 season.

“But it gave us a ton of fire,” Goff added. “I know Dan has spoken about it. It provided us with a lot of fire, as well as something to reflect on and draw on for the following year.”

The Lions, who finished one win short of the Super Bowl in 2023, have high expectations for the following season as the reigning NFC North champions. Undeniably, the organization will have higher expectations for the 2024 season than it had the previous season.

Goff is focused on one goal: winning the Lombardi Trophy at the end of the season.

“I suppose we had an opportunity to try it last year. So you can get a sense of how it feels. “This year, winning the Super Bowl is obviously the aim,” Goff said. “Obviously, our expectations and standards will rise, as will the expectations and standards of those outside. But internally, we’ll keep doing what we’ve been doing while raising our own expectations and standards.”

Detroit is now the “hunted,” not the “hunter.” It will make it more difficult to repeat as division champions and go to the NFC playoffs.

“I believe Dan expressed it perfectly (in his press conference following the Lions’ loss to San Francisco): how much harder it will be. “We understand that,” Goff stated. “It will be more difficult; people will be out to get us. You know, we’ll have a difficult time defending our division title. That’s number one, and we’ll see where things go from there. However, only one team will be able to hoist that trophy at the end of the season. And that’s our goal.”
