The 19-year-old was replaced at halftime in the 2-2 draw at Vitality Stadium, with the Red Devils trailing.
Following the Red Devils’ poor performance, Ten Hag was asked if the Argentina international’s retirement was due to injury.
The Dutchman just replied: “No.”
Garnacho reacted to his substitution by liking two social media postings from United fan and talkSPORT presenter Mark Goldbridge.
The comments lambasted Ten Hag’s treatment of the winger while also arguing that other players deserved to be substituted before Garnacho.
Goldbridge praised Garnacho as one of their greatest players this season.
“Poor first half but taking him off at half-time and holding him up as the problem is a joke. Many have done much worse week in and week out and are still out there.”
And after Ten Hag’s comments to the media, Goldbridge said: “Ten Hag subtly blaming Garnacho in the post-match press conference…
“Not a good look throwing a 19-year-old under the bus who has actually delivered for you this season.”But then again, he’s clearly scared of upsetting the bigger earners.”
Garnacho also took to his Instagram story to react to United’s draw, where he shared a picture of himself looking down at the pitch with a shocked emoji.
Despite his annoyance at Ten Hag’s decision, the youngster has appeared in 42 matches in all competitions this season, where he has become a starter under his tutelage. However, it remains to be seen how the former Ajax manager will react to his social media activities, as the forward is not the only player to criticize him online this season.
In September, Jadon Sancho responded angrily to Ten Hag’s assertions that he had been underperforming in training. Sancho joined Borussia Dortmund on loan in January after failing to make another matchday squad.
