This would be the deal of the summer…
Manchester City plans to sign one of Europe’s top young players this summer, similar to their purchase for Kevin De Bruyne from nine years ago.
Manchester City transfer news
It’s a rare day when the Citizens don’t make headlines for their transfer activity, and money is rarely an impediment. And that appears to be the case again this summer. Pep Guardiola is reportedly considering signing Villarreal shot-stopper Filip Jorgensen and Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz.
They’re not scared of shopping in the Bundesliga, either, having secured arguably their most important transfer in their history when welcoming Kevin De Bruyne from Wolfsburg all the way back in 2015. That £55m deal looks an undeniable bargain these days. Now, those at the Etihad reportedly want to sign another Chelsea academy reject who’s since starred in Germany.
According to TEAMtalk, Manchester City are ready to break the bank in a £120m deal to sign Jamal Musiala from Bayern Munich this summer. The deal would likely be the biggest of the summer whilst also breaking the Citizens’ transfer record, currently held by Jack Grealish.
Fresh from the European Championship, Musiala could slot straight into Guardiola’s side to form one of, if not the best midfield partnerships with Phil Foden to maintain City’s place at the top of English football. When the summer window swings open, Musiala is certainly one to watch.
“Brilliant” Musiala would lead City back to dominance.
Manchester City’s treble-winning season has resulted in a minor drop in Premier League performance, allowing Liverpool and Arsenal to gain a competitive lead in the title race.
While they have a chance to win the triple again thanks to their spot in the Champions League last eight and FA Cup semi-final, Guardiola will be eager to reclaim his team’s domination next season. Musiala and Foden would also assure that, especially with Erling Haaland providing support to form an unstoppable attacking combination.
Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen, who praised the Bayern Munich player, will be keeping an eye on Musiala if he makes the move to England.
According to Owen (via Bavarian Football Works), he believes the player is excellent. It’s a real shame he chose Germany than England. Lots of people compare him to Bellingham, but I believe he is a different type of player. He runs the ball quite well. I think he’s excellent at dribbling. “This boy has it all.”
