Morning Report: Updates on Kittle, Hufanga, and Greenlaw’s injuries

These first two weeks of free agency have seen a number of players come and leave from the San Francisco 49ers. Oren Burks, a seventh-year professional, is one of the athletes starting a fresh chapter in their careers somewhere else. After joining the red and gold at the end of the 2021 season, the linebacker played for a few years. He signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles last week.

It was head coach Kyle Shanahan of the San Francisco 49ers’ turn to speak to the media on Tuesday from Orlando, Florida during the NFL Annual League Meeting. NFL owners, executives, and head coaches go together every spring to vote on bylaw and rule amendments as well as to hear updates about the league as a whole before the 2024 season begins.

Bill McPherson, the former coach and executive of the San Francisco 49ers, was named a 2024 “Awards of Excellence” recipient by the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Wednesday.

The “Awards of Excellence” recognize those who have contributed to the prosperity of NFL teams and the professional football league. The Pro Football Hall of Fame introduced the “Awards of Excellence” program in 2022 to honor notable figures in the sport.

At this week’s NFL Annual League Meeting in Orlando, Florida, owners, executives, and head coaches are voting on proposed rule and bylaw changes and receiving league-wide updates ahead of the 2024 season. The red and gold contingent at the annual spring meeting includes San Francisco 49ers CEO Jed York, president of football operations and general manager John Lynch, as well as head coach Kyle Shanahan.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy joined in on the March Madness action, supporting his alma mater live from Stanford University’s Maples Pavilion.

Purdy watched the Iowa State women’s basketball team play the Stanford Cardinals, who are ranked No. 2, in the second round of the women’s NCAA basketball tournament on Sunday from the sidelines.
