Anthony Joshua announces his retirement….
Anthony Joshua has intimated that he only has “five years left” in the sport before retiring, saying that he is “getting towards the conclusion of my career.”
The 31-year-old heavyweight champion of the world may be nearing the pinnacle of his career, as talks to meet Tyson Fury twice in 2021 for unification are now underway.
After winning his WBA, IBF, and WBO belts back in a 2019 rematch with Andy Ruiz Jr., Joshua has now won two times since making his professional debut in 2013. Last month, he defeated Kubrat Pulev via knockout.
“My career isn’t just getting started. I’m nearing the end of my professional life,” Joshua said to Sky Sports News.
I am not a person who believes that everything is perfect right now and lives in the present. I’m nearing the conclusion of my career because I always plan ahead.
There are five years left, which is essentially an Olympic cycle. I have one more Olympic cycle remaining, so when the next Olympics take place, that’s when my career will come to a close and the next generation will take over.
Fury became a professional in 2008, almost five years ahead of Joshua, who recently hinted that his British opponent could be considering retirement as well.
“Fury has far more professional experience than I have. Joshua told Sky Sports that he ought to be considering retirement shortly.
I’m here and prepared to continue his legacy. I’ve prepared myself for this role.
However, Fury, 32, stated to Sky Sports last year that he aspired to have a protracted world title reign similar to that of Wladimir Klitschko.
