Nevada’s Henderson (AP): Antonio Pierce is looking to two seasoned former head coaches for guidance as he gets ready for his debut season as the full-time coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.
On Friday, the Raiders revealed their whole coaching staff. Joe Philbin, a former coach of the Miami Dolphins, will serve as senior offensive assistant, while Marvin Lewis, a former coach of the Cincinnati Bengals, will serve as assistant head coach.
During 2003–18, Lewis guided the Bengals to seven postseason appearances, finishing 131–122-3. Midway through the previous season, when Pierce took over as temporary coach, he was a crucial advisor.
From 2012 to 2015, Philbin was the Dolphins’ coach, going 24-28. In 2018, he served as the Green Bay Packers’ interim coach, going 2–2. Although he spent the majority of his NFL career coaching the offensive line for Mike McCarthy in Green Bay and with the Dallas Cowboys, he was an offensive analyst at Ohio State the previous season. From 2007 to 2011, Philbin served as the offensive coordinator for the Packers.
Notably, Scott Turner was kept on as the coordinator of the pass game. He was the offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders for three seasons prior to joining the Raiders in the previous season.
Even though Las Vegas placed tenth in the league in terms of opponents allowed to score, Patrick Graham, the defensive coordinator, is in his third season. Nevertheless, there have been some notable adjustments made on that side of the ball.
Three assistants were kept on board: assistant defensive backs coach Matt Feeney, defensive line coach Rob Leonard, and senior defensive assistant Rob Ryan.
